Organic vs Natural vs Ayurvedic

It’s a common confusion among consumers and users when it comes to natural, organic, and ayurvedic skincare products. A number of people tend to use these synonymously. But this isn’t the case. These 3 terms are a hundred percent different from each other and cannot be used in each other’s place. Let’s decode the differences and delve deeper into the world of skincare.

  • Natural skincare products: A ‘natural’ skincare product can be defined as something that is derived from a plant, mineral, or any animal by-product. Brands use this term on their product labels as a tactic because there is no governing body that has established the guidelines to specify a product as ‘natural’. Natural products can contain chemicals. In order to clear any doubts regarding the authenticity of the product, always check the ingredients of the product. Since ingredients are listed in order of percentage from highest to lowest, all the synthetic products are listed towards the bottom.

  • Organic skincare products: The term ‘organic’ refers to how ingredients are grown. For it to be classified as organic, an ingredient must be prepared and grown without pesticides, chemical fertilizers, GMOs, sulfates/parabens, or antibiotics. A product should be grown 70-95% organically, to fall under the organic skincare products.

  • Ayurvedic skincare products: The word Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words “ayuh” and “veda”. Ayuh means “life” and Veda means “sacred knowledge or science”. Ayurveda is an Indian medical science. Ayurvedic skin care products may not be completely natural. They may sometimes use toxic levels of metals as well. But these products create a balance between soul, body, mind. In Ayurvedic skincakre, herbs are used to cure health diseases and make the body healthy.
